The gripping dramatisation of The Boston Globes investigation into child abuse in the Catholic Church, Spotlight, stars Michael Keaton and Mark Ruffalo won Best Picture.
But arguably the most awaited win of the night went to Revenant star, Leonardo DiCaprio who, after six nominations, claimed the Oscar for Best Actor.
The Best Actress category had a star-studded line-up with Cate Blanchett, Carol, Jennifer Lawrence, Joy, Charlotte Rampling, 45 Years, Saoirse Ronan, Brooklyn and Brie Larson, Room, who took home the Oscar.
