The United Nations humanitarian chief says the number of Syrians living in besieged areas has more than doubled in the past year to nearly a million people.

Stephen O'Brien also accuses the Syrian government of isolating, starving, bombing and denying medical attention and humanitarian aid to people in opposition areas.

It comes as Syrian and Russian warplanes continue to pound rebel-held areas of Syria.
