Tense meeting between leaders of German and Russia

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has raised the issue of gay rights during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It was one of a number of issues raised during Mrs Merkel's first visit to Russia since 2015.

Relations between the two countries have been strained over Syria as well as Russia's annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.
