At least 23 people have died and dozens are injured after tornadoes struck the southeastern United States.

The death toll is already more than double the ten people killed by tornadoes in the U-S last year ((2018)).

Rescuers are continuing to dig through the remnants of destroyed homes and businesses, and the death toll is expected to rise.
