In a special hearing before the European Commission, civil rights activist Nguyen Quang A asked Vietnam to sign the Vietnam-Europe Free Trade Agreement human rights and democracy.
His stance seems to go against some activists who argue that Vietnam needs to improve human rights before ratifying the trade agreement.
As for the modified passport and then issued a new passport, he said it was due to the various factions in the Vietnamese government.
Dr. Nguyen Quang A explained his position in an interview with SBS Vietnamese.
