Turnbull, Shorten meet over Indigenous recognition

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten have met to discuss recognising Indigenous Australians in the constitution.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten have met to discuss recognising Indigenous Australians in the constitution.


But little progress appears to have been made.

Both leaders are working towards a referendum on the issue, but Mr Shorten has flagged going forward with a treaty.

Mr Turnbull is not in favour of a treaty, but Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel (NI-jel) Scullion says the Government would have to consider the idea if Aboriginal leaders recommend it.
