The United Nations Special Envoy to Syria has warned the east of the country's formerly largest city, Aleppo, faces total destruction by the end of the year if fighting there continues.
In a bold gesture, Staffan de Mistura has offered to personally escort rebel fighters out of Aleppo to save the trapped civilians.
