Unabling to work affects asylum workers resettlement

An estimated 10-thousand asylum-seekers are set to be released into the community this year without the right to work.


If, as refugee activists claim, almost all end up being recognised as refugees, then how will prolonged periods of being unable to work affect their ability to settle into the community?

The activists say a new study by a Victorian-based migrant settlement service indicates that the no-work rule would seriously disadvantage them.
