A freezing cold ice storm swept across the Midwestern United States, causing temperatures to drop below Antarctic temperatures and prompting authorities to warn near-instant frostbite.
At least six deaths have been linked to the weather system and the government urged people to stay inside the house, during which time experts described it as "the coldest air in a generation".
As of Wednesday morning, local time, the cold and icy weather caused the closure of schools and businesses and canceled more than 1,600 flights from Chicago.
