The United States has conducted multiple air strikes targeting militants from the self-proclaimed Islamic State, or IS, in the Libyan city of Sirte.
The Libyan government, which requested the action, says the strikes have caused severe losses to enemy ranks.
It appears to mark the start of a more intense U-S role in the region.
