Vietnam: One day three trials with 17 years imprisonment for three activists

On 12/4/2008 the People Courts of Nghe An has sentenced the former prisoner of concinesce Nguyen Viet Dung 7 years in prison and 5 years inhouse- arrest at half-day trial. Dung was convicted of spreading anti-state propaganda. Also today, two other members of Brotherhood for Democracy have been tried in separate trials including teacher Vu Van Hung at the Hanoi Court with 1 year sentenced, and Tran Thi Xuan, who was sentenced to nine years on charges of subversion, according to the state-run Vietnamnet news site.The sentences follow a spate of harsh jail terms handed down since last week, with seven activists from the Brotherhood for Democracy (BFD) collective convicted for attempting to overthrow the state.
