Almost half of Victorians have voted early

The Victorian Electoral Commission's expectations of high early voter turnout have been realised with more than 1.6 million votes cast by election eve.

A record 40 per cent of Victorians have voted early for tomorrow's state poll.

As early voting centres closed and final figures came in from the Victorian Electoral Commission, a total of 1,639,202 votes had been cast - this figure being made up of 1,388,799 early votes and 250,403 postal votes.

These figures are in line with Victorian Electoral Commission forecasts that 40-50 per cent of the 4.1 million enrolled Victorian voting population would cast their ballot before November 24.

Tomorrow's election will be the biggest in the state's history, by voter numbers, the VEC said.

There will 1,795 voting centres across the state which will be open from 8am and close at 6pm.
