One person has been killed after an American army helicopter crashed into a golf course in the state of Maryland.

One crew member has been killed and two others injured on Monday when a Blackhawk helicopter on a training flight crashed about 90 kilometres outside of Washington, the US Army said.

The helicopter, "was conducting a routine training flight" when it crashed at a golf course in Leonardtown, Maryland, south-east of Washington.

The injured crew members were taken to a hospital, with one in serious condition and the other in critical condition.

"We are deeply saddened by this loss within our community," Major General Bradley Becker said.

A US Army team from Alabama will visit the crash site on Tuesday to investigate the incident.
