Staff at the local information centre noticed the baffling disappearance this morning when the fibreglass structure was not on its concrete stand.
According to security footage, the mango was taken around two am Monday morning.
The footage shows a mobile crane passing Bowen's tourist information centre in the direction of the giant mango.
Unfortunately, the mango itself is not under surveillance so the actual theft was not caught on camera.
In a press briefing released by Bowen's tourist centre, the chairman of Bowen tourism says the mango's safety was never a concern.
“No one in their right mind considered for a second that someone would take a giant three storey high, 10 tonne Mango. It’s not like it’s something that can be easily hidden,”
The "Big Mango", as it's called, was erected in 2002 to celebrate the thriving mango growing industry in the region.
