More than 1300 drivers have been caught speeding through school zones and another 400 busted for not wearing seatbelts in a one-day police operation across NSW.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Command also fined 440 pedestrians for crossing the road at the wrong location or time during the state-wide operation on Wednesday.

"For 1366 drivers to be speeding in school zones displays utter disregard for the safety of our state's most valuable asset, our children," Assistant Commissioner John Hartley said.
