A 14-hour siege has ended after a man was lured out of a Melbourne home with the promise of a cigarette.

Police were called to the Maribyrnong home just before 3.30pm on Monday to speak to the man over an alleged domestic violence incident but he threatened to burn the place down if police took action.

The man, aged in his 40s, was arrested by the canine unit at 6am on Tuesday and taken to hospital for treatment.
