15 Russians could get invited to Games

15 Russians will have their cases looked at by the IOC after the Court of Arbitration for Sport threw out their doping convictions.

Thirteen Russian athletes and two coaches may be allowed to attend the PyeongChang Winter Olympics after their life bans for doping were lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

International Olympic Committee (IOC) spokesperson Mark Adams said their cases would be examined by an IOC panel.

His comments come just six days ahead of the opening of the Games and follows the CAS decision to overturn life bans on 28 Russian athletes linked to doping.

Of the 28 athletes, 13 have retired from sport, leaving 15 still able to take part, two of whom are now coaches, Adams said.

The invitation review panel will now examine whether to invite the 15 to the Games "in the light of this CAS decision," Adams said.

The IOC had said following the CAS ruling the athletes would not be going to South Korea because Russia's Olympic Committee had been suspended, although 169 Russian athletes have been invited to compete as neutrals.
