20,000 Afghans displaced since 2018 start

The UN says fighting in Afghanistan has forced nearly 20,000 people to leave their homes since the beginning of 2018.

The ongoing conflict in Afghanistan has forced nearly 20,000 people to leave their homes since the beginning of 2018, the UN reports.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, 18,500 people have so far been displaced.

This is an average of 385 displaced people per day, according to the report.

Forced displacements were reported from almost all parts of Afghanistan, but most came from the eastern and western regions of the country, the UN said.

Last year 460,000 people left their homes due to conflict, while the number of displacements in Afghanistan in 2016 reached more than 660,600.
