200 jobless after Vic call centre collapse

Almost 200 people from Melbourne call centre CallActive have been left jobless after it went into liquidation - owing millions in superannuation and back pay.

Almost 200 Melbourne call centre workers have lost their jobs, with back pay and more than 12 months in superannuation entitlements also owing, one month before Christmas.

Many of the workers from the CallActive call centre in Bentleigh East have taken to Facebook to vent their stress and frustration.

Workers weren't paid their wages last week and then found out on Friday they no longer had jobs with the company.

"Problem is liquidators will pay off tax debt and everything else before we get our entitlements. We might be left with nothing peeps!," Fiona McDougall wrote on Facebook.

"No advance warnings of the impending closure has left many of the staff not knowing how they will put food on the table," Kenneth Simpson wrote.

The Australian Services Union is attempting to recover up to three weeks in workers' wages and an unspecified amount of holiday and long service leave.

"With it being this close to Christmas and people being owed back pay, it's put a lot of financial pressure on people," ASU secretary Ingrid Stitt told AAP on Tuesday.

Around 60 jobs were also lost at the company's operation at Wellington, in New Zealand.
