Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques is, as expected, set to miss the rest of the Big Bash League with a calf tear.

The Sixers said on Tuesday that scans had confirmed an upper grade calf tear in his left leg after retiring hurt in their clash with the Melbourne Stars on Sunday.

It's the same injury Henriques sustained earlier this season in Sheffield Shield cricket for NSW and which delayed the start to his BBL campaign.

"Henriques is unlikely to be available for any remaining matches in BBL05," said the statement.

Henriques was batting and in good nick on 41 against the Stars when he hit the ball through mid-wicket and pushed off for a run.

He immediately pulled up and grabbed at his left calf and was forced to retire hurt.

The injury almost certainly ends the 28-year-old allrounder's hopes of making Australia's squad for the Twenty20 World Cup from March next year and is likely to now aim for a return for the second half of the Shield season in February.
