In the eyes of social media users, neither leader is doing well on the election trail as most social media conversations mentioning the pair are negative.
More than half of all conversations about Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull have been negative from the beginning of the campaign until May 30, according to Meltwater analysis of more than 150,000 conversations on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and blogs.
Opposition leader Bill Shorten was talked about more positively than Mr Turnbull by comparison, although previous analysis showed Mr Turnbull was receiving the bulk of all election-related conversations online.
The conversations also showed people were discussing key election issues with negative gearing, refugee policy and climate change a common theme in conversations about both leaders.

- 53 per cent negative, 25 per cent neutral, 22 per cent positive
- Key themes in conversations: Panama papers, NBN, big banks, detention centres, climate change policy and negative gearing
* Bill Shorten:
- 43 per cent negative, 22 per cent neutral and 35 per cent positive
- Key themes in conversations: refugee policy, Medicare, climate change and negative gearing
