Australian rowing gold medal hope Kim Brennan is through to Olympic final of the women's single scull after winning her semi-final at Lagoa Stadium.
Racing against her New Zealand arch-rival Emma Twigg, reigning world champion Brennan got off to a big lead early with the Kiwi challenging late in the race.
Brennan held on for victory with Twigg second and Swiss rower Jeannine Gmelin third across the line.
Earlier, Rhys Grant missed qualifying for the men's single sculls final, finishing fifth with the top three advancing to Saturday's medal race.
New Zealand's Mahe Drysdale, the defending Olympic champion, easily won the semi.
