Fremantle coach Ross Lyon says Greater Western Sydney are a genuine chance of winning the AFL flag after their club-record 92-point home win over the Dockers.

The Giants kicked 13 straight goals and 16 out of 17 to take control of the game at Spotless Stadium on Saturday, and win 19.15 (129) to 5.7 (37) after Fremantle led by seven points in the first quarter.

The second half was a disaster for Freo, who are the last of the 17 clubs to play the Giants in Sydney.

They were outscored 11.8 to 0.2 after halftime as they crashed to a seventh-straight loss.

The winning margin was one point better than the Giants' previous best of 91 at the same venue against Gold Coast earlier this season, and the percentage boost keeps them in the hunt for a top-four spot going into the final round.

"There's no doubt I think they could win it. I think that's indisputable," Lyon said.

Jonathon Patton's career-best six-goal haul helped the Giants to their win, kicking two in each of the last three quarters and boosting his tally for the year to 29.

Patton, who played just 33 games in his first four seasons but has missed just one this year, doubled his previous best of three goals in a game.

Giants coach Leon Cameron said the key forward had been doing extra work each week.

"He's probably improved a per cent most weeks. There's no doubt he took a good step forward today," Cameron said.

"It's just pleasing that work he's been doing has come to fruition today on the scoreboard, but he knows he's still got a long way to go.

"Just the grind of playing AFL football week in, week out.

Cameron said the Giants' strong response to their last-gasp loss to West Coast was a sign of his team's growing maturity.

Midfielder Ryan Griffen and defenders Adam Tomlinson, Nick Haynes and Zac Williams were also strong contributors to the Giants' win, while forwards Jeremy Cameron and Steve Johnson kicked three goals each.

For Freo, Shane Yarran kicked three well-executed majors in the first quarter, but touched the ball only four times after the first term.

Midfielder Lachie Neale was again prolific in a losing cause, tallying 40 touches.

"I was really pleased with our start and the first half in general and we were really positive at halftime," said Lyon, whose side trailed by 20 at halftime.

"But they ramped it up and we weren't able to go with them."
