Newcastle winger Nathan Ross is set to miss next week's NRL clash with South Sydney after being charged for a dangerous throw on Chris McQueen.

Ross was hit with a grade one dangerous throw citation by the match review committee for a tackle on the Gold Coast back-rower in Saturday's 26-6 loss to the Titans.

He will miss a week even with an early guilty plea and his only chance of taking on the Rabbitohs next Sunday is if he successfully challenges the charge at the judiciary.

One of the Knights' best during their abysmal 2016 season, Ross was recently rewarded with a two-year contract extension.
