Power has been cut to at least 800 homes and two cars have been damaged after a crane collapse on the NSW Central Coast.

The large crane was working on a construction site at Gosford when it crashed into the cars and pulled down powerlines at around 4.15pm on Monday.

The driver was trapped in the collapse but eventually released from the cab unhurt.

It may be 24 hours until the crane can be removed and the power outage repaired, police say.
