Wallabies playmaker Quade Cooper is in serious doubt for the Spring Tour clash with France, with the enigmatic star facing a fitness test on game day.

The 28-year-old suffered an ankle injury at training on Tuesday and sat out the captain's run on Friday.

Coach Michael Cheika remains hopeful Cooper will take the field at Stade de France for Saturday's kick-off (7am on Sunday AEDT).
