Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish slipped from second to third but remain firmly in contention for victory at the halfway stage of the Ghent Six Day event.
Wiggins, riding in what he has suggested may be the last competitive race of his illustrious career, is competing in the city of his birth and on Monday spoke of what would be an emotional week.
Second after two days, Cavendish and Wiggins dropped a place as Kenny de Ketele and Moreno de Pauw retook the lead, but remain on the same number of laps as the leaders and second-place Elia Vivani and Iljo Keisse, with 26 points separating the top three.
Five-time Olympic champion Wiggins and Cavendish won the team elimination race on day three before finishing second to De Ketele and De Pauw - who beat them in last month's London Six Day - in the time trial.
The Brits finished second in the first derny race, third in the madison and second in the derny final to keep pace with the leading pairings.
