A prominent British photographer who had recently been accused of rape by several of his former subjects died in Paris on Friday, French media reported.

David Hamilton, 83, most famous for his pictures of naked young teenage girls, was found unconscious in his flat by his neighbour.

French television presenter Flavie Flament had written in a book published last month about how she was raped in 1987 at the age of 13 by a famous photographer.

Last week she said the photographer had been Hamilton, after which two other women came forward.

Hamilton denied the accusations.

"I'm innocent and have the right to be considered as such," he said on Wednesday.

Flament was "devastated" by Friday's news, her editor Karina Hocine said.

"Of course we feel horrified at the situation ... but at the same time really disgusted that there wasn't time for justice to take its course," she said.

Hamilton's work was published in high-end fashion magazines.
