A lay day has been called at the World Surf League's season-ending Pipe Masters in Hawaii.
Strong onshore wins have made for poor conditions and WSL organisers will reconvene on Saturday (Sunday AEDT) with the hope of starting round two of the prestigious competition at Oahu's Banzai Pipeline.
"The ocean is super junky. We have probably got three swells in the mix with a longer period and good direction without that Kona low that has come over the top of us and really destroyed the ocean," said WSL commissioner Kieren Perrow.
"Positive side of things is that this wind will gradually improve through today and tomorrow."
The first Australian in the water when action does commence will be 2012 Pipe Masters champion Joel Parkinson who takes on local wildard Finn McCall in heat three.

Hawaiian John John Florence has already won the men's world title, clinching the crown by taking out the Portugal Pro at Peniche in October.
