Adam Zampa has described his recent ODI omission as "disappointing" and "odd", saying he is unsure why selectors have dropped him.
Zampa, after establishing himself as the nation's frontline white-ball spinner this year, played the first chapter of the recent trans-Tasman ODI series in Sydney.
But the legspinner was axed in favour of allrounder James Faulkner for the ensuing clash in Canberra. Selectors then named an unchanged XI for the dead rubber in Melbourne.
Zampa, who has played 19 ODIs and eight Twenty20s for Australia this year after making his international debut in February, has found it a puzzling experience.
"It's always disappointing personally when you don't really think there's a great reason why you're not playing," Zampa told cricket.com.au.

"I'm the (world's) leading (ODI) wicket-taker for the year at the moment and to have both me and Hasto (John Hastings) on the sidelines feels a bit odd.
"The selectors said to me that I'd been bowling well and I bowled well in the first game at the SCG, too.
"So I don't really know (why they dropped me). I didn't really get the feedback that you would like to try and improve on.
"I guess if they think I'm bowling well, there's not really much else I can really do."
The 24-year-old has taken 30 ODI wickets this year. Hastings and England's Adil Rashid are next on the list with 29 victims.
Hastings was outspoken after being left out of the recent ODI squad, admitting he was "very disappointed" and "initially pretty shocked".
"I thought my performances over the last 12 months have stacked up," he said at the time.
Zampa will aim to remind Trevor Hohns' panel of his talent during the Big Bash League, when he will represent the Melbourne Stars, but is confident he will be retained in the ODI squad.
Australia's next one-day assignment is a five-match series against Pakistan, which starts on January 13 at the Gabba.
"I think I'm going to be in the squad. I don't think I've done anything wrong to not get in the squad at least," he said.
"I want to be able to prove that I can do it here. I've done it on Australian wickets before.
"I'm looking forward to the Pakistan series but it's always disappointing not to be playing."
