A one-hour stop work action at Victoria's largest power station on Christmas Day could jeopardise energy supplies in the middle of a predicted heatwave.
Energy giant AGL was notified by Electrical Trades Union officials on Tuesday that maintenance workers at the Loy Yang power plant would walk off the job for an hour at 7am on Christmas Day.
The plant produces up to 30 per cent of Victoria's electricity and can experience power spikes when temperatures soar into the high 30s.
The Bureau of Meteorology says Christmas Day will be 35C.
The industrial action is part of a long-running battle over pay and conditions.

News of the strike comes less than a week after the CFMEU abandoned its 24-hour strike on December 28.
