Australian John Peers and Finnish partner Henri Kontinen have been crowned men's doubles' champions at the Australian Open.
No.4 seeds Peers and Kontinen defeated American pair Bob and Mike Bryan 7-5 7-5 on Saturday night to claim their first silverware at a major.
The third-seeded Bryan brothers had each been looking to equal John Newcombe's record for the most grand slam doubles titles won by an individual with a 17th major win.
But Peers and Kontinen were not to be denied, outplaying their more experienced opponents in an hour and 14 minutes.
Peers, who will be a key player in Australia's first-round Davis Cup tie against the Czech Republic next week, said it was a special feeling to become part of Australia's proud grand slam doubles history.

"It is an amazing feeling," Peers said.
"I was looking through some of the names on the trophy. To be alongside some of the guys and idols I looked up to in the past is something that hasn't sunk in yet.
"It's a humbling sort of experience and something that I'll never take for granted."
The Bryans are the most successful doubles pairing of the open era with the 'Woodies' - Australian pair Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge - next best with 11.
Approaching the end of their careers at age 38, the twins said they may have played their final match at Melbourne Park.
"We realise that this is maybe going to be one of our last years, maybe the last year," Mike Bryan said.
"I think we're going to just devote one more hard year and start talking about it at the end of this year."
