Vic sword murder suspect still at large

Police are searching homeless shelters for a man wanted for questioning over the murder of his brother at a Melbourne shopping centre.

Police are scouring homeless shelters and soup kitchens for Jonathan Dick, who may be armed with knives and is wanted for questioning over his brother's murder at a Melbourne shopping centre.

David Dick was slashed in the head with a sword as he stepped out of a car park lift at Westfield Doncaster shopping centre on February 3.

The 36-year-old died at the scene.

Police are searching for his older brother Jonathan, whose car was found in Ivanhoe East more than a week after the attack.

"A sword believed to have been used in the attack was found inside the Ford Fairmont," a Victoria Police statement said on Wednesday.

Police have been searching homeless shelters and soup kitchens for Mr Dick who they believe doesn't have much money on him.

He withdrew $100 on January 18 and another $200 in the days before his brother was killed but hasn't accessed his bank account since.

Mr Dick's uncle John Hird said his mother Carol and other brother Simon were still too devastated to speak to the media, so he was calling for Jonathan to come back.

"Jonathan, if you see or hear this message, please surrender yourself to police so that family can know you are safe," Mr Hird said.

"We all need closure Jonno, and you can assist us."

Mr Hird also sent a message from Mr Dick's mother that said she loved her son and wanted him to call her.

Mr Dick, 39, is described as Caucasian in appearance, 180cm tall with short grey hair and a solid build. He may have facial hair.

He has a wolverine vs sabre-tooth tiger tattoo on his right thigh, and another tattoo on one of his calves.

Police have warned the public not to approach him, as he may be armed with multiple knives.

Investigators have released footage of him at a bank on January 18 in the hope someone may recognise him.
