Crockett in, Barrett at No.6 for Crusaders

Crusaders and All Blacks prop Wyatt Crockett will play against the Western Force, while Scott Barrett will line up at blindside flanker.

Veteran Test prop Wyatt Crockett will step in for the rested Joe Moody when the Crusaders take on the Western Force in Christchurch on Friday.

The 34-year-old loosehead has come off the bench in each of his Super Rugby side's four matches this season, making seven tackles and contributing to three unlikely comebacks against the Highlanders, Reds and Blues.

He'll now pull on the No.1 jumper for the visit of the Force, with first-choice Test loosehead Moody given a week off.

Tim Perry will take Crockett's place on the bench.

"We've got a really deep squad, trust everyone and there's a chance for Joe to go into a little bit of conditioning," Crusaders boss Scott Robertson said on Wednesday.

"He's played every game and the same for Whetu (Douglas)."

Douglas, as implied, will also take a seat in the stands on Friday, necessitating a Crusaders loose forward reshuffle.

Jordan Taufua will pull on the No.8 jumper in the Garden City, while Test lock Scott Barrett will move to blindside flanker.

The 23-year-old has been training in the role for a number of weeks in order to widen his repertoire at both club and Test level.

Fellow Test lock Luke Romano will slot in to Barrett's spot in the second row, while Mitchell Dunshea is likely to make his debut from the bench.

"A great athlete, clear on his role, gives us another lineout option - for him, it's something he can add," Robertson said of Barrett.

Elsewhere, openside Matt Todd and winger Digby Ioane will step back into the fold after recovering from a calf strain and finger injury respectively.

Halfback Bryn Hall has been switched out for Mitchell Drummond, while stalwart Tim Bateman has stepped into the midfield.

Manasa Mataele moves to the bench.
