Reigning world surfing champion Tyler Wright has stamped her authority early at the Margaret River Pro with a dominant first-round victory.
Wright, who won last year's event, cruised through an all-Australian heat against Laura Macauley and Keely Andrew before organisers postponed the final three heats due to deteriorating conditions.
"I calculated the wind into my plan and I knew it was going to be a factor and I just tried to choose my waves as smart as possible, accounting for the wind and speed bumps, but also the timing," Wright told Fox Sports.
Six-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore, three-time world runner-up Sally Fitzgibbons and Nikki Van Dijk are the remaining Australians who will complete round one heats on Friday morning.
"I always have high hopes for the wind here in the afternoon but sometimes it just doesn't work out," World Surf League (WSL) women's commissioner Jessi Miley-Dyer said.

"We'll start with the women tomorrow and it'd be nice if we get some really clean conditions."
Also lining up on Friday morning will be world No.2 Lakey Peterson and three-time world champion Carissa Moore.
Hawaii's Malia Manuel looked solid in her victory in heat one, while American Courtney Conlogue won the second heat before Wright made her early statement.
