Kirk keeps LPGA leaders firmly in sights

Katherine Kirk has kept in touch with the leaders in the LPGA Lotte Championship after a two-under par 70 in the second round.

Australia's Katherine Kirk is within striking distance of the leaders near the halfway mark of the LPGA Lotte Championship.

After an opening round four-under par 68, Kirk finished with a two-under par 70 to be at six-under par for the Kapolei tournament.

She is the best-placed Australian in a share of 10th, three shots behind In-Kyung Kim and Ariya Jutanugam.

Minjee Lee recovered after an opening 73 to fire a four-under par 68 to improve into a tie for 31st.

Ariya Jutanugarn and In-Kyung Kim each birdied their final hole on Thursday.

Jutanugarn had a bogey-free six-under 66, and Kim shot 64 to reach nine-under 135 at Ko Olina Golf Club.

Jutanugarn won five times last season and was the LPGA Tour's player of the year.

Alena Sharp (69) and first-round co-leader Mi Hyang Lee (70) were a stroke back.
