Bernard Tomic has withdrawn from his second round match against Andy Murray at the Barcelona Open due to a lower back injury.

Tomic snapped a streak of five first-round losses in a row on Tuesday when he defeated German journeyman Dustin Brown in three sets.

But just 24 hours later he was unable to take the court, handing world No.1 Murray a safe passage in to the round of 16.

Last month, Tomic - the 41st ranked player in the world - retired due to the heat after the first set of his first-round match in Acapulco and withdrew from the Miami Open citing a back problem.

The 24-year-old Australian has a history of withdrawing from tournaments, doing so on four occasions in 2016 midway through matches.
