Missing trio found safe in NSW hinterland

Three bushwalkers missing in the NSW Central Coast hinterland have been found after a rescue helicopter spotted a small campfire.

Three bushwalkers have been found safe and well after going missing on a trek in the NSW Central Coast hinterland.

The alarm was raised at a Mangrove Mountain farm in the Dharug National Park on Thursday night.

The trio - two women aged 65 and 72, and a 69-year-old man - had set out at 9am and told family members to expect them home about 4pm, NSW Police say.

A command post was established by emergency services at the property and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter later spotted a small campfire in the bush.

However, powerlines in the area prevented it flying closer.

Police were given the GPS co-ordinates and the hikers were found sitting around the fire about 11.30pm on Thursday.

The "three elderly bushwalkers" did not require medical assistance and were reunited with their families, a NSW Ambulance spokesman told AAP.

Police have advised those going on bushwalks to wear appropriate clothing, pack adequate food and water, and carry safety equipment.
