James Anderson and Joe Root have starred for England on a manic second morning against South Africa at Trent Bridge.
Anderson took four wickets for four in 16 balls and the tourists could add only 26 runs before being bowled out for 335.
England then lost both openers with only three runs on the board, but captain Root (52 not out) and Gary Ballance produced a counter-attack in an entertaining and unbroken stand of 82 for a lunchtime score of 2-85.
Root's was a remarkable 40-ball half-century, which he reached in under an hour.
Earlier, Anderson began the rush of wickets with that of Vernon Philander and Chris Morris - giving him an innings total of 5-72.

Philander went without addition to his overnight 54, and Anderson made short work of Keshav Maharaj in the next over, having him caught by Root at second slip.
Morne Morkel was last out for South Africa, edging an expansive drive off Anderson behind to Jonny Bairstow.
The change of innings did nothing to halt the succession of wickets, as Philander and Morkel got their hands on the ball.
Philander went straight to DRS when he got one to straighten back into Alastair Cook in the fourth over, and the former England captain was given out caught behind.
Morkel made it two wickets in two balls with the first delivery of the next over capturing Keaton Jennings.
Root and Ballance then steadied the ship for England.
