An elderly man has died and two others have been taken to hospital after a truck crashed through two front yards in western Sydney.

The truck veered off the road after colliding with an oncoming car on Burnett Street in Merrylands about 12.40pm on Saturday.

It hit a man who was in the front yard of a nearby property, before travelling into another property and hitting two other men, police say.

One man died and the other two were taken to Westmead Hospital with injuries - one in a critical condition.

The male truck and car drivers weren't injured and have been taken for mandatory testing.
