A young man is behind bars and his parents in hospital after a stabbing attack in Sydney's west.

David Anderson, 21, did not appear at the Parramatta Local Court on Saturday after being charged with stabbing his mother and father inside their Oatlands home on Friday morning.

Anderson's lawyer did not apply for bail on his behalf, with his case set to return to court on Thursday.

The 21-year-old has been charged with wounding his 55-year-old father with intent to murder, and wounding his 53-year-old mother intending to cause her grievous bodily harm.

Anderson has also been charged with using a carriage service to threaten to kill his father on Boxing Day last year.

His parents remain in stable conditions at Westmead Hospital receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the alleged attack.

The case is set to return to Parramatta Local Court on January 28.
