The surrogate mother raising baby Gammy after he was allegedly abandoned in Thailand by his West Australian parents will get a new home and receive about $530 a month to care for him.
Bunbury couple David and Wendy Farnell made international headlines in August when Thai surrogate, Pattharamon "Goy" Janbua, alleged they deserted Gammy, who has Down Syndrome, and returned to WA with his twin sister, Pipah.
GoFundMe has raised $241,620 for Gammy and is now redirecting donors to Hands Across The Water.
Founder Peter Baines visited the family in Thailand last week and also met with the director of the private hospital where Gammy was treated for pneumonia, and said he was much healthier now.
"He's done really well with the treatment that he's received over the last six weeks or so," Mr Baines told Fairfax radio on Tuesday.
He said the group had chosen new accommodation for the family, close to the hospital, with running water and electricity.
The property would be held in a trust for Gammy for about the next 20 years and the family would also receive about $530 a month, Mr Baines said.
He denied suggestions that the surrogate was using Gammy to get money, saying she had rejected money from the media and had chosen simpler accommodation than what the charity was offering.
"Gammy is very clearly an integral part of the family," he said.
Mr Baines also met with a Down Syndrome specialist in Thailand to better understand the support services available to Gammy and said a care plan would be rolled out over the next three years.
Mr Farnell is being investigated by WA authorities after it emerged he had been jailed in the 1990s for indecently dealing with three girls.
An assessment of the case was put on hold while Pipah and Ms Farnell travelled to China after the death of Ms Farnell's mother, but the pair have now returned to WA.
