The mother of a 14-year-old boy killed in a car accident in central NSW has raised almost $2000 in a crowdfunding campaign to pay for his funeral.

Jackie Omalveney died at about midnight on Saturday morning when the vehicle he was travelling in flipped on its roof just northeast of Mudgee.

The driver of the vehicle, a 16-year-old who was unlicensed, was airlifted to Sydney's Westmead Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He remained in a critical condition on Saturday evening.

Leonie Omalveney, the mother of Jackie, started a gofundme page on Saturday in an attempt to raise funds for his funeral.

By 8.30pm AEST the campaign had raised $1860 from 39 separate donors.

On Facebook, family members were shell shocked by Jackie's death.

"Worst news an aunty can ever get. My 14-year-old nephew passed away this morning," wrote aunt Leigh Cottee.

"RIP Jackie, fly high our precious angel, love you always."

Cousin Mick Austin was similarly distraught.

"Rest in peace Jackie Omalveney, 14 years old, gone way too soon. Life ain't fair sometimes," Mr Austin wrote.

Ms Omalveney wrote that she "would give a thousand yesterdays for a few more tomorrows".
