3 dead, 13 trapped in Turkey mine collapse

Three workers are dead and 13 remain trapped after a copper mine collapsed in Turkey.

A copper mine has collapsed in southeast Turkey, killing three workers and trapping 13 others inside.

The privately-owned mine near the town of Sirvan, in Siirt province caved in following a landslide in the region on Thursday, the private NTV television said.

Several ambulances and rescue teams were dispatched to the area and rescuers recovered the bodies of three miners, NTV said.

The miners were working the night shift at the time of the collapse.

In 2014, 301 miners were killed in a fire inside a coal mine in Soma, western Turkey - the nation's worst mining disaster.

The tragedy exposed poor safety standards and superficial government inspections in Turkey's mines.
