33 dead, 22 injured in Algeria road crash

At least 33 people have died in Algeria after a bus crashed into a truck, overturned and caught fire.

Thirty-three people have died and 22 have been injured after a bus crashed into a truck south of the Algerian capital, hospital officials say.

The collision occurred early on Saturday in the province of Laghouat, around 330 kilometres south of the capital, Algiers, state radio reported.

After the collision, the bus overturned and caught fire, making it hard for many passengers to escape, the broadcaster said, quoting an injured man.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.
