36ers beat Perth for 8th straight NBL win

Nathan Sobey and Jerome Randle have spearheaded the 36ers' come-from-behind four-point NBL victory over the Perth Wildcats in Adelaide.

The top-of-the-table 36ers recorded their eight consecutive NBL win on Thursday night, defeating the Perth Wildcats 78-74 at Adelaide's Titanium Security Arena.

Nathan Sobey claimed the Martin Cattalini Medal for his impressive 24-point haul and Jerome Randle (22 points) shook off a quiet first half to spearhead the Sixers' gutsy revival, after the hosts had trailed by eight points early in the third quarter.

Jaron Johnson (21 points) was a consistent four-quarter threat both inside and outside for the Wildcats, who gradually looked like seizing the upper hand after Adelaide led 24-23 at the end of a high-tempo opening term which comprised five lead changes.

Johnson was the key figure in the Wildcats' 10-2 flurry late in the second term which enabled them to draw clear, 44-41.

The Sixers' first-half shooting from the floor was wobbly, while their work on the glass was awful, outrebounded 30-17 at the main break, Perth tall towers Matt Knights, Jameel McKay and Casey Prather owning the boards.

The margin grew to eight points early in the third before Randle, sparingly used in the second term after chalking up an early technical foul, sparked Adelaide's comeback, pegging the Cats' lead to just one point at three-quarter time.

Randle mesmerised Corban Wroe with an ankle-busting crossover and sweet finish to hand the 36ers the lead early in the fourth, which they maintained as Perth's attack, Johnson aside, faded in the crunch.

Victorious 36ers coach Joey Wright felt his side, who seized a 10-point lead with 3:52 remaining, could have done a better job of hammering home the advantage.

"We definitely have some room for improvement in closing games out," he said.

"I'm glad we're not peaking right now but you take the win."

Perth coach Trevor Gleeson noticed the momentum swing Adelaide's way when Prather was called for a charge in the opening stages of the fourth term.

"We had that call go against us, Casey's charge foul, which looked to me to be two points," he said.

"Then we struggled to score ... had some open looks and couldn't make them. They had their tails up."
