Around 500 jobs will be axed at New Zealand Post in the coming months as the state-owned company struggles to make money in the face of falling mail volumes.

The affected jobs are in management and specialist positions in the company's offices in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

A statement from New Zealand Post is expected on Tuesday afternoon (NZ time).
