6.1 quake strikes southeast of Japan

An earthquake has struck off the coast of Japan's main island, Honshu, but there are no immediate reports of damage or tsunami.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 has struck to the southeast of Japan's main island of Honshu, the US Geological Survey says.

The quake had a depth of 33 km and occurred nearly 400 km from the Izu islands just southeast of Honshu in the early hours of Wednesday (local time).

There were no immediate reports of a tsunami or of any damage.
