6.8m quake hits off Bougainville PNG

An earthquake with a 6.8 magnitude has struck off the coast of Papua New Guinean island Bougainville.

A 6.8 magnitude undersea earthquake has hit off the coast of the Papua New Guinean island of Bougainville.

The quake struck at 3.19am (AEDT), according to Geoscience Australia and was close to the Solomon Islands.

The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre says there is no tsunami threat to Australia.
