7.3 quake hits off Vanuatu

A large magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck on Wednesday morning around 80 kilometres north of the South Pacific Island nation of Vanuatu.

A large magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck on Wednesday morning around 80 kilometres north of the South Pacific Island nation of Vanuatu, but did not trigger a tsunami warning throughout the region, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said.

The United States Geological Survey initially had registered the powerful but deep quake at 7.2, before revising it upwards.
